What is this?
What you have found is one of my small photo projects. In short, I've been taking picture of the rock on a regular basis for over a year. I decided to post them online for my own amusement. Perhaps you will find some amusement as well.
Why are you doing this?
In all honesty, it was an excuse for me to carry my camera every day. I had an interest in what people were painting on the rock, so it seemed like a good idea at the time. Now, I do it because I'm finally building up an interesting collection of pictures.
Where is this rock that you are taking pictures of?
If you are not familiar with the campus of Michigan State University, this whole site won't make much sense. If you are, however, familiar with the campus, the rock is located on the east side of Farm Lane, between Shaw and Auditorium. The pictures are of the north west face of the rock
When do you take the pictures and how often?
I take a picture every day I'm on campus. Typically, the picture is taken between the hours of Noon and 9pm. Some days I take multiple pictures. Some days, I'm not on campus, and thus I don't take any pictures.
How often do you update the site?
The site is updated on a fairly random basis. I usually get to it at least once a month.
How long have you been doing this?
The project began July 1st, 2003. I don't know when it will end.
What are you using from the technical side to display this.
For a camera, I've been using a Canon 10D. I very much love this camera.
The back side running the site is a half dozen perl scripts and some magic reading meta data from the JPEG files that the camera creates. Beyond picking out which files are pictures of the rock, the posting process is totally automated.
The original images I capture are roughly 3000x2000 pixles. The software automatically creates the downsized images for the web. I save all the original images in full size for long term archival.
How do I contact you? I've got a question that you didn't answer.
